Get online wizard

What it is for​

The Get online wizard connects a domain to your Steer Studio website: either a domain you buy through Steer, or a domain you already own. For your own domain, it gives you the two DNS records to add and verifies them.

Access​

  • Menu: My website, then the Custom domain card (/dashboard/my-website/wizard).
  • Requires the Steer Studio module on your team.

Steps​

  1. Open the wizard from My website and choose a path:
    • Buy a domain: you are sent to the domain purchase and returned here once the domain is connected. See Domains.
    • Bring your own domain (Free, DNS setup): keep your provider and add 2 DNS records.
  2. Domain: enter your domain.
  3. DNS records: in Add these records at your registrar, copy each Host and Value (or Copy all) and add them at your current domain provider: a CNAME that connects your website and a TXT record that proves ownership.
  4. Verification: the wizard checks both records. Each shows Found, Not visible yet or Waiting.
  5. Live: "Your domain is live." Click Open the site.

Good to know​

  • Bringing your own domain is free; buying one through Steer costs credits.
  • DNS changes can take a few minutes to be visible.
  • On Cloudflare, turn the proxy off (orange cloud to grey) on these records.
  • After DNS is verified, the SSL certificate is prepared before the site goes live.

Common issues​

"We cannot verify both DNS records yet." Check both hosts and values, then try again. DNS changes can take a few minutes.

"Lost connection while verifying. Refresh this page to retry." Refresh the page; the connection in progress resumes.

The site does not load after verification on Cloudflare. Turn the Cloudflare proxy off on both records.
